The Guitar Machine
Project:
The Guitar Machine
Course:
Studio Art 178 - Electronics & Art I
Assignment: Apply the electronics concepts used in class to a project of your choice.
Approach: Nobumichi Tosa of MaywaDenki spoke to our classes about his "nonsense" musical machines. I was inspired to make my own. I mounted six motors connected to six micro switches which rotated flaps of plastic to strum each of the six strings on the guitar.
Construction: All of the motor mounts, switch mounts, and spacers were designed in SolidWorks, then cut using a LaserCamm. I soldered the connections and melted shrink wrap on all of the wires for durability. See detail...
Product: I am very happy with the look of the guitar on its own as an art object. The fact that it actually plays is an added bonus!
